WHAT IS CHILD LABOUR ?
Any child under the age specified by law worldwide works full time, mentally or physically to earn for own survival or adding to family income, that interrupts child’s social development and education is called “child labour”. Any child under the age of 15 engaged in activity to feed family or self is “child labour”. ILO Convention 138 (C. 138) obligates countries to fix a minimum age for employment that should not be less than the age for completing compulsory schooling and, in any event, should not be less than 15 years. Developing countries may set the minimum age at 14. C-138 provides flexibility for countries to establish a younger minimum age of 12 or 13 for children to partake in “light work.” For more detail read at--

CJI: child laws not being implemented
Chief Justice of India (CJI) K G Balakrishnan on Friday rued that protective laws for children were not being properly implemented in the country. Addressing a seminar here on justice delivery standards for children, organised by the Legal Assistance Forum, Justice Balakrishnan pointed out that though there were appropriate legislations in place aiming at ensuring children’s welfare, the implementation of these still lagged. He cited the instance of the Juvenile Justice Act, which he said few states, with exceptions like Manipur and Orissa, were implementing seriously.
The CJI underlined that child labour continues to be a major problem in the country, and quoted a report that said 5,000 children still eked out a living on the streets of the Capital itself. He said that Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan were still grappling with this problem unlike Kerala that is relatively better off.(courtsey indianexpress)
